Health Teachers! You're about to start your middle or high school body systems unit, and you don’t want it to be just another boring labeling activity... right? Try this Body Systems 101 lesson instead—it includes two hands-on activities that get your students out of their chairs, working in groups, and thinking.
In groups, students will try to identify which body system is responsible for different main functions. Around the room, you’ll have 11 printable body system cards. At the bottom of each card is a question, and when students take the first letter of each answer, they collect the clues to piece together the final message (hint: it’s “homeostasis”).
Next, students play a game where they act as body systems and figure out who they pair with for each function. For example: your body starts to sweat… the integumentary system and endocrine system step into the middle and explain what they did. It’s a great way to get students actively involved and listening closely.
