Does your school have an energy drink problem? Mine did too and I set out to change that. This Google Slides caffeine lesson shows teens just how much caffeine is packed into their favorite drinks… and it doesn’t stop there. Students will learn the effects of caffeine, graph its half-life, and compare popular drinks. Plus, they’ll get moving with interactive activities that get their hearts racing, literally.
Here’s the breakdown:
Start with a short video and engaging activities that let students track resting heart rate vs. heart rate after caffeine (hint: get ready to jump!). Then they dive into data, measuring caffeine in two different energy drinks, graphing the half-life, and figuring out how long the effects stick around. After that, students line up real drink labels and discover just how wild some of these are… Bang Energy has 300mg?!
Finish strong with a classroom debate on energy drinks in schools. Students back up their opinions with real research and reflect on their own caffeine habits and school culture in a final Think–Pair–Share activity.

- NHES-aligned lesson plan & teacher’s key
- 18 editable Google Slides to guide the lesson
