Oh no… the puberty talk. Teens already know their bodies are changing. Yes, we can go through a checklist of physical changes happening during middle school, but what about the emotional side? The embarrassment? Feeling self-conscious? Feeling left out or wondering, “Am I normal?”
This puberty lesson goes beyond anatomy to help students feel less alone and better understand how to navigate both the physical AND emotional changes that come with growing up.
How the Lesson Works:
After learning the basic hormonal changes and how they affect the body, students work in small groups to explore realistic situations common during puberty.
Students determine:
- what someone might say out loud (“Whatever.” “No big deal.”),
- what they might actually feel inside (I feel embarrassed.)
- and how others might interpret their response (They seem so unfazed.)
This activity naturally opens conversations about peer pressure, friendship drama, comparison, insecurity, and the very real question many teens have:
