This no-prep Happiness & Balance (Mental Health) lesson walks middle school students through what really makes them happy, how “easy wins” differ from meaningful challenges, and why a balanced life needs both comfort and discipline.
Students follow along with the ready-to-go slides as they play an icebreaker game (“Someone Who Loves…”), meet characters like Chill Chad and Rigid Rayna, and use the Pain–Pleasure Matrix / Happiness Balance Map to sort real-life examples into “easy wins,” “good pain,” and more.
With a rubber band in hand, they experience cognitive elasticity, stretching for discipline, relaxing for rest, and finally design their own Happiness Bingo Board, mixing challenge activities with joy-filled “easy” ones to create a personalized plan for building happiness over the week.
